The Compasso d’Oro: A History of Excellence and Celebrated Winners

Established in 1954, the Compasso d’Oro ADI is the oldest and most influential international design award. Founded by Gio Ponti and initially organized by the La Rinascente department store, the award aimed to highlight the value of Italian design. Since 1958, the award has been managed by the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI), ensuring its continued prestige and integrity.

Over the years, the Compasso d’Oro has awarded over 350 projects, recognizing innovation and excellence in design. Among the famous winners are icons like Achille Castiglioni, who won for the famous Arco lamp, Vico Magistretti with the Carimate seat, and the Castiglioni brothers for the Luminator lamp.
